This transformer wire length calculator estimates the total wire in a winding from the number of turns and the mean length of one turn. Enter both values above.

Formula

Wire length = Turns × Mean turn length

The mean turn length is the average perimeter around the core former for the winding.

Example

540 turns with a mean turn length of 0.25 m: length = 540 × 0.25 = 135 m.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find transformer winding length?

Multiply the number of turns by the mean length of one turn around the core.

What is mean turn length?

It is the average perimeter of a single turn around the former, midway between the inner and outer layers.

Why estimate wire length?

It sets the copper cost, winding resistance, and weight of the coil.
